"Hung to dry, pungent and proud. Garlic is the soul of the Mediterranean kitchen."
A braid of garlic hangs against a deep midnight background of phthalo blue and green, its papery skins catching the gold that edges every subject in this richly dark series. This is an original acrylic on paper from The Mediterranean Table, part of Luna Burlo's debut Works on Paper series.
No ingredient is more fundamental to Mediterranean cooking than garlic. From the simplest Maltese bigilla to the most elaborate Provençal feast, garlic is the foundation — aromatic, generous, and utterly essential. A braid of garlic hanging in the kitchen is one of the most enduring images of Mediterranean domestic life. It speaks of preservation, of preparation, of a culture that has always known how to make something extraordinary from the humblest ingredients.
One of just twelve originals in this collection, painted on 210gsm paper and hand-trimmed to approximately 42 x 54.5cm. A slight variation of up to 0.5cm in height may occur — a natural characteristic of a hand-finished work.
Classic with a touch of the unexpected. For the kitchen, the dining room, or anyone who knows that the best things in life start with garlic.
Framing We recommend professional framing to honour this original work. As a cost-effective alternative, a standard 50 x 70cm frame with a 40 x 50cm mat board works beautifully — note that a few centimetres of the painting's top and bottom edges will sit behind the mat, however most works in this series have been composed with this in mind.
This painting is part of a coordinating set of four, alongside "Oyster", "Sardines", and "Honey and Oil" Each shares the same deep midnight ground, luminous colour, and gold edging. Collect one or collect them all.
