Hello, I'm...

Luna Burlo

Luna Burlo is a visual artist born on a sun-drenched Mediterranean island and now making her home (and her art) in Melbourne, Australia.

Her work sits at the intersection of the two worlds that shaped her: the warmth, colour, and stories of Malta, and the wild, botanical beauty of Australia. Working in acrylic on canvas and paper, with elements of gold leaf, glass beads, and mixed media, she creates in a style that blends the abstract with realism. Unique, layered, and alive with colour.

Luna paints for those who find magic in the everyday. For the wonderstruck and the colour-obsessed. For those who believe a home (and life) should feel intentional, beautiful, and a little fantastical.

Her subjects speak to that belief with native Australian birds and botanicals, the food and culture of her Maltese heritage, women in long swishing dresses, floating blooms, constellations, glowing orbs of light… Recurring symbols of inner strength, beauty, and the quiet magic of the natural world. Vivid colours and dreamlike compositions invite viewers into a space for reflection and joy. She creates visual moments of beauty in a world that moves too fast.

Beyond the studio, Luna is a published author and illustrator, a passionate gardener who grows and dries her own herbs and flowers, an avid reader, and someone who has spent over twenty years working creatively with children and families. These threads run through everything she makes: the love of story, the wonder of the natural world, the belief that beauty is worth celebrating.

Luna holds a Bachelor of Arts and has a simple guiding principle: to create work she would be proud to hang in her own home. Looking around her walls, she usually succeeds.

Art for those who believe beauty is a kind of magic.
